I am an Indian who has been working with Hongkong Telecom for two years and have been in Hong Kong since 1992.
The Red Cross organises blood donation drives in our office premises (Telecom Tower).
I have donated blood before (in July of last year), but the following incident really angered me and a lot of Telecom staff.
On the morning of July 30, a Red Cross official went around Telecom Tower informing staff of the blood donation drive and urging them individually to go to the donor centre which had been set up on the 14th floor.
I was one of many members of staff, including a number of Indian nationals, who were given forms and asked to queue up.
There was a long queue with people of all nationalities. One of the Red Cross officials walked up only to the Indians in the queue and asked each of us whether we had been in Hong Kong for more than three years, after which we were asked if we had been out of Hong Kong in the last year.
