A sports scholarship in the name of Olympic heroine Lee Lai-shan is to be set up by the Government, it emerged last night. Officials from several departments who met yesterday to plan her welcome celebration came up with the proposal. The one-off award would be separate from other sports development funding currently under consideration. A government spokesman said the cash figure and the qualifying criteria were yet to be decided. Lee said in Atlanta yesterday she would be hiring a manager to handle her business affairs. Since becoming the first Hong Kong athlete to win an Olympic medal on Monday, San San has been awarded more than $2 million in cash. Companies have been racing to sign her up to endorse their products.
