Giant cabbage sets world record

With what could be the weirdest sculpture in China, Shenzhen has won a place in The Guinness Book of Records for the country's biggest white marble carving.

Called Big White Cabbage, the carving has won praise from residents who say it shows Shenzhen agriculture has entered the modern era.

The carving, in the middle of Buji Agricultural Produce Trade Market, 30 minutes' drive from Shenzhen city, has become a landmark in the special economic zone.

Buji vegetable dealer Long Tang said: 'Buji is no longer a backward town. I bet our produce market here is as advanced and organised as that in Hong Kong.' As big as a Hong Kong minibus and weighing 253 tonnes, the carving was created by Lin Ruoxi of the Guangzhou Fine Arts Institute.
