Democratic Party vice-chairman Anthony Cheung Bing-leung took a Preparatory Committee member to lunch yesterday, in another seeming move towards dialogue with pro-China forces by Legco's largest political party.
Professor Lau Siu-kai attended a lunch given by Mr Cheung, Democrat legislator Dr Law Chi-kwong, and political commentator Dr Lo Chi-kin. Professor Lau stressed it was a long-planned engagement.
Last month Mr Cheung and chairman Martin Lee Chu-ming lunched with veteran pro-Beijing figure Xu Simin and discussed the future PLA garrison.
Professor Lau said: 'I just reiterated my belief that both the Chinese side and the Democrats should take a small step to allow dialogue between them.
'While the Chinese side should give up the no-contact policy, the Democrats should avoid confronting the Chinese side.
'They can start by focusing on giving constructive advice to the Chinese side about Hong Kong's transitional issues,' he said.
