Undoubtedly, San San and her coach deserve respect. I only pity the six million people living in Hong Kong. With all the sports facilities available it took them this long to get a single medal. The people of Hong Kong should be humble in their cheers. It only takes one glance at the medal table to feel ashamed. African athletes who can hardly afford a pair of running shoes were winning medals left, right and centre. Not only do I pity the Hong Kong people. It makes me more angry that the Hong Kong Government is even considering spending more tax money on developing Hong Kong sport. Hong Kong people have proved over the years that they are nothing but a bunch of couch potatoes who are not able to get any results. Only a handful of people including San San are allowed the spotlight. It is disgusting to see other people steal the show from her. Where were companies like the MTRC when she probably needed them most? Now it offers her free rides. Bearing in mind the MTR's latest track record, San San could probably cross the harbour faster on her surfboard than by using its trains. B VAN PESKI Kennedy Town
