Singapore's best-known hotel, Raffles, is to open its Culinary Academy to the public.
The academy will give culinary students the chance to learn the secrets of Singapore's ethnic dishes, along with the hotel's award-winning signature dishes and the favourite creations of several visiting chefs.
Singaporeans are passionate about their food. The range of cuisine stems from the waves of immigrants from all over Asia who brought their favourite dishes, ingredients and cooking techniques to the island.
From September 16, food lovers will be able to discover the culinary arts that have made Singapore one of the food capitals of the world.
The aim of the academy is to become the region's premier school of gastronomy, featuring the ethnic cuisines of Singapore's four main cultural groups - Chinese, Malay, Indian and Peranakan.
The Peranakan people are descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in Penang, Malacca and Singapore and married local Malays.
The food combines Chinese and Malaysian influences.
