I refer to the letter headlined, 'Police must use radar camera', which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on July 17 and wish to thank your reader for bringing the matter to our attention and for condemning motorists who behave in such a dangerous way. Readers will appreciate that the section of road referred to by your reader is a designated tunnel area, the policing of which principally falls within the jurisdiction of the Commissioner for Transport. Traffic police are therefore seldom deployed to carry out enforcement action in the area. However, we have, since the two recent accidents which apparently were caused by driving at excessive speed, approached the tunnel manager of Tseung Kwan O Tunnel and offered our services on speed checks in the area. Your reader will be pleased to know that this proposal has been accepted and police action will follow. JEAN CHAN for Commissioner of Police
