Pupil tries to commit suicide

A pupil who scored five As and two Bs in his O-Level exams, swallowed cleaning solvent and slashed his wrist in his Shau Kei Wan home yesterday.

Police said Wong Yuen-tat, 17, in fair condition at Eastern Hospital last night, was depressed because his marks had failed to guarantee a Form Six place in his own school, Salesian English School in Chai Wan Road. The student had been accepted by another school but considered it of a lower standard, police said.
