While it is possible to sympathise with those Hong Kong employers of foreign domestic helpers who have asked that the Hong Kong Government open the door to enable mainland Chinese to join the pool of available helpers (a matter brought up once again in Betty Yung's letter in the South China Morning Post, on August 7), we believe they are banging their heads against a brick wall.

The only other observation we feel should be made on Mrs Yung's letter is in the form of a question.

The letter included a statement to the effect that there were numerous helpers involved in sexual relationships with local residents, in particular with some expatriate 'employers'. Just how does the employers' association think that such a statement helps its cause? JOVITA O. LEANO Trustee United Migrant Workers Interim Trust
