A man whose boss was sent down for waging a hate campaign against Chief Secretary Anson Chan Fang On-sang was himself jailed for six months yesterday for assaulting Mrs Chan's cousin.

Wong Yiu-chung, 25, had, at the District Court, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He claimed he committed the offence because he wanted to help his 'good boss and friend' Wong Kwai-nam, but denied acting on his instructions.

But Judge Wong Hing-chun said it was 'inexcusable' to assault another person in order to help a friend.

'The attack was completely unprovoked and purely malicious . . . How can a friend benefit from such an attack?' the judge asked.

Judge Wong added that if the defendant was not instructed by his boss, he was more to blame.
