Do not put blame on maids

I refer to P.K. Lee's complaints (South China Morning Post, January 27) about the invasion of Filipino maids.

The writer does not seem to realise that due to their below-average wages they are left with no other choice but to congregate in a place that does not cost them anything.

Suggesting that they be forced to ''compensate shopkeepers for loss of business'' is also absolutely ludicrous.

Hongkong is fortunate in that good domestic help is easily available here, and we should be thankful and happy to allow the maids the small pleasure of spending time with their family and friends on their day off.
