A FATHER is suing a restaurant because his young daughter is expected to be scarred for life after being scalded by a mug of boiling water.
Four-year-old Lam Wai-in suffered burns to her face, neck, shoulders and chest when kitchen hand Wong Lin-poon accidentally spilled the scalding water, according to a writ filed at the Supreme Court yesterday.
The accident happened when Lam Sheung-fong took his daughter to the Riverside Szechuan Restaurant in Hung-hom on May 12 this year. Doctors fear her growth could be stunted by the injuries. Follow-up treatment is expected to last ten years.
Wai-in and her family may also need psychological counselling to come to terms with the deformity, the writ said.
Mr Lam is suing Wong and restaurant operator Reed Company Ltd for negligence. No sum was specified in the writ.
