Youth drug

DRUG taking and trafficking within Lan Kwai Fong appeared to be restricted to young adults, rather than involving the crowds of drunken teenagers which congregate in the area, police said yesterday.

Mr Justice Bokhary questioned police about drug activity in the area, asking if it was ''safe to assume'' that no other social hazards, besides underage drinking, existed.

Central district commander Superintendent Justin Cunningham said regular police patrols picked up occasional users and traffickers, mainly people in their 20s, whose drug of choice was cannabis.

Assistant Commissioner Brian Wigley described underage drinking as a social rather than a police problem, which involved parental guidance.
