THE St John's district headquarters in Macdonnell Road will be redeveloped into a 30-storey building at a cost of $210 million to meet the increasing demand of its services.
St John, which has been active in providing first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and emergency services, is also moving towards financial independence by generating income from the letting of hostel accommodation in the new building.
The redevelopment project is made possible with the donation of $54.8 million from the Hongkong Jockey Club (Charities) Ltd for the new St John premises and a loan of $160 million from the New World Development Company for the hostel.
The St John Complex will be located on the lower floors and the hostel, canteen and laundry facilities on the upper floors.
The New World Group will be responsible for the construction and operation of the hostel.
The demolition work is expected to start soon and be completed by 1995.
