China's dominance of the territory's re-export market was maintained in the first half of the year, government data shows.
About 90 per cent of the $551 billion of re-exports through Hong Kong involved China in at least one direction.
Those re-exports heading to the mainland accounted for 36 per cent of the territory's re-export value during the period, while those originating from China were 56 per cent.
A spokesman for the Census and Statistics Department said much of the re-export trade involving China was related to outward processing.
Raw materials and semi-manufactured goods were exported from Hong Kong to China for processing, and the final products subsequently were returned to Hong Kong, and re-exported to overseas markets.
Other main sources of re-exports were Japan, with 11 per cent; Taiwan, at 7.3 per cent; and the United States, 5.5 per cent.
