Police Sergeant Ng Keung, 38, has been confined to a wheelchair since he was shot by a gunman in 1979 during a stop and search operation in Kwun Tong.
In 1984, he married Wong Yuk-lin, a fellow patient in the United Christian Hospital.
Sergeant Ng's injury has not stopped him playing his favourite sport of basketball.
He is now the captain and coach of the Hong Kong wheelchair basketball team, which failed to qualify for the Paralympic Games.
He works for Wong Tai Sin police station's operation support sub-unit. What's on your mind? The success of the Hong Kong Paralympic team in Atlanta is encouraging to disabled athletes. It makes all of us believe that everyone can pursue success despite physical constraints.
It's important to set yourself a goal and work towards it. Disabled people, just like ordinary people, can achieve a lot if they don't give up. Are you at all jealous of the Hong Kong Paralympians' achievements? I do envy those who qualified to go and hope that one day I could join them. I wouldn't say I was jealous because I feel happy for them.
