THE Premiership's most enigmatic player, Southampton's Matt Le Tissier, took a second chance to impress watching England coach Glenn Hoddle.
Hoddle had seen Le Tissier in Southampton's season opener against Chelsea (0-0) and wanted to see him again before naming his first England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
He did so in the Leicester-Southampton match at Filbert Street and obviously impressed to gain a squad place.
Leicester won 2-1 and Saints boss Graeme Souness admitted: 'Matt did okay against Chelsea and Leicester but he wasn't electric.' Hoddle was impressed by the way Leicester fought to protect a 2-1 lead as they tired in the closing stages and Steve Heskey, whose second goal was a spectacular 25-yard screamer, must have caught the eye.
Leicester boss Martin O'Neill said: 'Our chairman spoke to Glenn at the end and he said he had not seen commitment like that from a side for a long time.' O'Neill paid tribute to Heskey and predicted: 'He can become something special.
'He is big, strong and quick and he's only 18. His second was a wonder goal.'
