Many players will think Ripper the best adventure game of the year.

    With a terrific story line and all the beloved elements, Ripper is a full-motion video adventure. You play veteran crime reporter Jake Quinlan, trying to stop a mysterious serial killer who calls himself Ripper wreaking havoc in 2040.

  As the plot unfolds, you will find there are four possible endings. When you come to the climax, you are required to choose who is the murderer from your list of suspects.

  The puzzles are different depending on whether you set the difficulty level to Easy, Medium or Hard.

  The game allows for a lot of customisation, so players can change levels of difficulty or combat skill if they get stuck.

  Ripper is a great game with different endings which provide more fun possibilities for players. Some people, however, might find the puzzles quite tough even if the difficulty level is set to Easy. It is not for novices.

   Your progress will become smoother if you stop to talk to as many people as possible and investigate every item you scan into your WAC database.

   Sometimes you can't solve a puzzle without a lot of trial and error.

  It also helps to write down lots of notes from people you have just talked to if you are going to save the game.

  Sometimes the video is choppy. Some scenes stop and start and get out of synch with the sound if you play with a 2 x CD-ROM. Choosing small screen/high resolution or mode change/low resolution video can help.

  Ripper runs on IBM-compatible PCs with Intel 486 DX50 processor or better, 2 x CD-ROM drive, 6.5 MB of free extended memory (XMS) as well as 10 MB of free hard disk, mouse and Midi or FM Synth music card.

  To play speech, a sound card is needed. The game supports Sound Blaster, Gravis Ultrasound and Media Vision cards. For graphics, choose a VESA-compatible 512K VGA card or one with VESA driver installed.

  It will only run on MS DOS version 5.0 or higher, or Windows 95 via a DOS box using Plug and Play. It will not run on Windows 3.1.

  MEGAHINT: You are required to insert four coins in the correct order to get the bank in the bedroom to work. It is also necessary for you to look at the patent plaque on the way up, as you are asked to do some calculations.

  MEGAHINT: For Catherine's crystals, you have to form a constellation. You can do that by looking at the birthday card to see what sign she is. Remember to look at the star chart too.

  MEGAHINT: Each clock in Burgess Meridith's house represents a different country. To solve the puzzle, you need to determine which country goes with each clock. Look at the map and figure the time zone relationships between the three. Set them all to the same as the one upstairs in the bedroom allowing for time differences.
