Two Hong Kong mothers decided their children's generation deserved a stronger technology education, so they formed a business to provide it.
Joyce Shih, Compaq Computer's former marketing services manager, and Winnie Chang, a long-serving customer service executive with Hongkong Telecom, have combined their marketing skills and knowledge of the IT industry to open a franchise of Futurekids, the chain of children's computer education centres.
Ms Shih, who is expecting her second child next month, said the Kowloon Futurekids franchise was set up because of the high penetration of computers in Hong Kong households.
Futurekids already operates centres in North Point on Hong Kong Island and Sha Tin in the New Territories. The Kowloon centre is near the Prince Edward MTR station.
Ms Shih and Ms Chang have been joined by some partners but they said it was more than just a business proposition.
'We are on a mission,' Ms Shih said. 'We know how important it is to get a background in learning to use a computer these days.
