Duo make it into the quarters
Hong Kong's badminton stars Ng Ching and Tung Chau-man did the territory proud by reaching the quarter-finals of the women's doubles at the US$180,000 (about HK$1,400,000) Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur.
The talented duo came back from one game down to beat Malaysia's Saha Geevien and Boopathy Ishhari 12-15, 15-5, 15-1 to reach the last eight of one of the world's richest tournaments.
Ng and Tung lost a closely-contested first set but regained their composure to become the first Hong Kong players to reach the women's doubles of a major tournament.
Hong Kong Sports Institute head badminton coach Chan Chi-choi was pleased the pair had done well, even though they later went on to lose their quarter-final match.
'Both Ng and Tung did a good job to make it into the quarters,' Chan said. 'They both worked very hard and deserved a bit of recognition.' In the men's doubles, Ma Che-kwong and Chow Kim-man received a boost by beating Singapore's Lau Kim-pong and Tan Sian Peng on reaching the second round.
The pair were beaten, however, in the third round.
