A broken-hearted bus route controller got drunk and drove a bus to ease his grief, a court heard yesterday.
But Chong Choi-chuk, 25, did not have a driving licence, and lost control of the bus in heavy rain, hitting a fence in Sun Yip Street, Chai Wan.
Eastern Court heard that after the incident Chong lost consciousness in the driver's seat. He was taken to hospital with minor cuts.
An unseen colleague asleep at the back of the bus was woken by the accident and called the Fire Services.
The colleague, a driver, had arrived at the Siu Sai Wan depot half an hour before his departure time early on May 28, and had decided to take a nap in his vehicle, the court heard.
Chong admitted five offences: drink-driving, driving without a licence and without third-party insurance, careless driving and taking a conveyance without authority.
