Take-off and landing remain the most critical phases of flight amid the latest innovations in aviation - that is why the proper maintenance of runways is equally important as that of any aircraft.

"The challenge becomes even more magnified with varying weather conditions and obstructions, particularly water, ice, snow or slush," says Martti Ahola, general manager of airport equipment specialist Moventor.

Committed to making take-offs and landings safer, Moventor provides a range of friction measurement systems that measure, record and print friction data to enable airport operators to effectively schedule runway maintenance and improve operational safety.

Among the company's flagship products is the Skiddometer BV11 continuous friction measuring equipment, which is approved and recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Designed as a trailer that can be towed by any vehicle, the Skiddometer BV11 is backed by more than 30 years of expertise. It conforms to Nato standards and is used in civil and military operations across Scandinavia.

With more than 350 new airports slated to be built in Asia-Pacific in the next decade - about 100 in China alone - Moventor is optimistic about expanding its market share and reinforcing its partnerships, particularly with dealers, in the region.

Addressing the market's demands, the company has introduced the Skiddometer BV11 VI, which is integrated in a four-wheel-drive pickup truck.

The equipment was first used at Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport in Shandong in 2013, and a new unit was delivered to another Chinese airport last month - adding to the 28 existing products that Moventor has deployed in China.

"Fully equipped with advanced technologies and greater mobility for servicing multiple runways, the Skiddometer BV11 VI is especially suitable for airports in China and Asia," Ahola says. "We look forward to strengthening our foothold in the region and forging more relationships that last a lifetime, just like our products."
