The China Motor Bus Company may boast about its new buses, but its drivers need lessons in common courtesy and energy conservation.
I commute from Lantau to Central every day and find it maddening to stand in line at the ferry pier while waiting for the CMB drivers to open their bus doors. People queueing up would like to get out of the heat and be away from the noxious fumes spewed by bus exhausts for minutes on end, but the drivers couldn't care less for the public's welfare.
Twice, I've had to go to the man in charge at the depot to complain about drivers stretched out on the seats snoozing in air-conditioned comfort, while queues of passengers wait outside in the broiling sun.
Why can't they leave the doors open while they take their naps so people can get in and be away from the heat? This would be basic courtesy, but as in everything else in Hong Kong consideration for others never enters the picture.
