Prominent owner and long-serving steward of the Jockey Club, Allan Li Fook-sum, is the new deputy chairman of the board following the election of Wong Chung-hin to the chairmanship on Monday night. Sir John Swaine, who stood down as chairman and also resigned from the board of stewards, has been replaced by the Hong Kong Bank's chief executive officer, David Eldon. Meanwhile, there are no Jockey Club plans to hold a special race meeting to mark the handover of the territory next July. 'It would mean a race meeting at the end of June or very early in July which is not ideal at all,' said Jockey Club chief executive, Lawrence Wong. 'The horses are tired, and so is everybody else. We may do something when racing resumes in September.'
