Registration guidelines have been issued to students taking the Advanced Level exam and Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) as private candidates.

  Entry forms and notes are available at District Offices. Those wishing to sit the exams must register in person at one of the following centres during the specified period or time: Hong Kong Registration Centre: Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai. HKAL and HKCEE: September 10 to 12. Kowloon Registration Centre: Hong Kong Examinations Authority, San Po Kong Sub-office, 17 Tseuk Luk Street, San Po Kong, Kowloon. HKAL: September 13 to 19; HKCEE: September 13 to 26.

  The office hours are 9 am - 4 pm weekdays and 9 am - noon on Saturday.

      Candidates must submit the completed entry form and produce originals of their qualifications and identification.

   Candidates are advised to register within the specified periods. Late applications made on or before December 14, 1996, can only be accepted under special circumstances.

       Appointment cards will be issued to cope with the expected rush on the two Saturdays during the registration periods. Cards will be issued to applicants during office hours, and they will be asked to return at a specified time the same day.

  A person can sit the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination 1997 as a private candidate provided he or she has:      Obtained at one sitting the HKCEE or an equivalent public exam at least 18 months before the exam they are entering;      Has Grade E or above in at least six subjects, including Chinese and English Language (Syllabus A or B). At least one must be at Grade C or above and the total of the best six grades not less than 10 points; or,    Has Grade E or above in five subjects including Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus A or B) and the total of these five grades is not less than 13 points;   Sat a previous Hong Kong A-Level exam; Reached the age of 21 by January 1, 1997, and has obtained at one sitting in the HKCEE or an equivalent public exam, Grade E or above in at least five subjects, including Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus A or B).

  The 18-month requirement will be waived for language qualifications as long as they are obtained prior to registration. Grades A to E shall be given the numerical values of five to one respectively for the purpose of calculating the points.
