Celebrating 70 years of expertise in high-quality pumps and electric motors, leading Finnish pump manufacturer Kolmeks is laying the groundwork for a China-led international expansion. With infrastructure on the rise in China and Asia-Pacific, the company has opened two sales offices in Beijing and Shenyang, in addition to its Shanghai branch, in a bid to become an established pump supplier on the mainland.

"Kolmeks' standards ensure that we make reliable products, and we are seeing that there is a huge need for high-end, durable pumps in China," says Ralf Sohlstrom, president and CEO. "Our vision is to have an important market share of foreign-brand pumps in China by supplying customers with products that are built in line with our slogan promoting efficient reliability."

A subsidiary of family-owned The Brandt Group, Kolmeks is headquartered in Turenki and consists of a European manufacturing arm in Viljandi, Estonia, and Asian production facilities in Chuzhou and Ma'anshan in China.

Established in 1945, the company produces 40,000 cast iron, stainless steel and bronze pumps annually for a wide range of industrial applications. Specialising in centrifugal pumps used in heating and cooling systems, Kolmeks also produces subcontracted and in-house electric motors and motor components for use in pumps, extractors, lifts and door mechanisms.

Kolmeks will be marketing in Beijing an optimised, energy-saving pump for Chinese consumers during the China International Trade Fair for Sanitation, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning 2015 in May. Launched in October last year and built with an integrated frequency converter allowing for real-time adjustment of flow rate and pressure, the variable speed drive pump is one of the many innovative products in Kolmeks' portfolio.

"Our service concept guarantees that we provide the best sales and distributorship support to local customers," Sohlstrom says. "Our target is to cover all the industrialised parts of China within the next few years by increasing our distributor network."
