Hydroll upbeat on expanding market for piston accumulators
More than its international experience and customer-oriented approach, Finnish company Hydroll attributes its success as a global supplier of high-quality, piston-type hydraulic accumulators to its singular focus. "Integral to our growth is our unique positioning, being the only company in the world purely specialising in piston accumulator technology," says Ilpo Honkanen, managing director. "Tapping our industry-leading expertise, we aim to better educate the market about the many user benefits of piston accumulators over bladder accumulators and other traditional accumulator solutions."

Incorporated into hydraulic systems, Hydroll's HPS, HPD and HDC series of piston accumulators have found diverse applications, from mobile equipment and industrial machinery to renewable energy installations. The units, which feature a robust and simple cylindrical design, have proven optimum functionality and operational safety in heavy-duty operations, even within difficult arctic conditions.
"Our accumulators can be customised according to customers' requirements," Honkanen says. "We work closely with our clients, understanding the challenges they face to recommend the best possible solution at competitive prices."
Originally designed to meet the extreme needs of forest harvesters, Hydroll accumulators are also in demand in the wind turbine industry. The units are highly effective in stabilising brakes in wind turbines and as active energy storage and safety backup. To date, Hydroll has installed more than 130,000 piston accumulators in more than 11,000 onshore and offshore turbines worldwide.
For mobile machinery, Hydroll accumulators reduce shock pressure in the hydraulic circuits, thereby extending equipment service life. Additionally, the company is active in developing solutions for solar and wave energy applications. Late last year, Hydroll launched a cost-effective accumulator featuring the same high-quality functionality for primary use in the solar sector where it sees sizeable growth potential.
"We're an established name in Europe. We now seek to build our presence in Asia, South America and North America," Honkanen says. "We are keen on partnering with system integrators and distributors who share our belief on the superiority of piston accumulators."
