The business sector has increased pressure on shipping tycoon Tung Chee-hwa to decide quickly whether to stand for chief executive, saying they are afraid of 'backing the wrong horse'.
The call comes on the heels of Tuesday's announcement by Chief Justice Sir Ti Liang Yang that he was ready to accept nomination.
Vincent Lo Hong-sui, president of the influential Business and Professional Federation, said Mr Tung had to make up his mind as soon as possible.
'It is very important. Time is running out. Hong Kong people should be given the time to understand the platform and blueprint of each candidate.
'Some businessmen are very anxious to know whether he will join the race . . . some are afraid they have backed the wrong horse.
'It'll be hard for those who want to [back] him to make public their support if he does not go public,' he said.
However, Mr Lo, a Preparatory Committee member and head of the Shui On construction and property group, said uncertainty remained within the business sector on which candidate to back.
