How can content, technology and teaching combine to help each pupil to reach full potential? "Amid today's technologies, the killer app in education is still the teacher," says John Martin, CEO of Sanoma Learning - market leader in some of the world's best-performing education systems and frontrunner in digital transformation.

Sanoma creates multichannel learning solutions that enhance the effectiveness of primary, secondary and vocational education. "Brilliant teachers are why Finnish education is among the best in the world," Martin says. "At Sanoma, we work closely with them in designing solutions that help pupils to excel."

Sanoma reaches more than 10 million students and 1 million teachers in Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Sweden, and exports learning solutions to another 40 countries, including China, where education is progressively adopting advanced learning solutions. The company partners with People's Education Press on the mainland and with the Hong Kong government to bring digital education solutions to the region.

"Schools and governments seek accountable, objective educational results and value for money. Teachers strive to help pupils reach their full potential and want high-quality learning resources that bring excellence. Parents wish for involvement, while pupils want fun, engaging learning," Martin says. "We respond to these challenges with integrated digital solutions that link everyone in the learning process."

Among Sanoma's most widely used solutions is Bingel, a storified and gamified online exercise platform for primary education. Bingel is highly motivating for pupils and allows parents and teachers to monitor results and provide personalised feedback.

Boosting this strength, Sanoma has teamed up with New York-based adaptive learning technology leader Knewton to launch next-generation solutions using predictive analytics. It has also partnered with Nokia and Microsoft to develop comprehensive digital learning packages featuring Sanoma's e-books.

"We believe that education is at the dawn of a new, digitally enabled era, and we are keen to work with international partners in transforming learning for the next generation," Martin says.
