A fun sports event, with plenty of music thrown in, was the climax of RTHK's 'Solar Project 96'. The show, held at the Aberdeen Sports Ground, was also a tribute to the Hong Kong athletes who took part in the recent Paralympic Games. Joining the Paralympic winners for a spot of light-hearted sports competition were pop stars, deejays and Legislative Councillors. The event was also aimed at raising funds for the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Physically Disabled. A total of $151,000 was raised. The organisers said through the programme they wanted to encourage young people to discover their potential and build up their confidence. Artistes who graced the show with their song and dance routines included Aaron Kwok, Anita Yuen, Joyce Lee, Ku Tin-lok, Ekin Cheng, Hacken Lee, Amanda Lee and Sammi Cheng. The crowd of 3,000 was thrilled to see their favourite singers also showing off their sports skills. Sammi Cheng got a particularly loud cheer for her impressive display of gymnastics. However, when it came to actually scoring points, the singers lost to the Paralympic team. Michael Leung, executive producer of 'Solar Project 96', said the programme, which was launched in July, had given young people a chance to gain different skills and take part in various social services. He hoped they would continue to keep the Solar spirit alive.
