Eight more consultants have been awarded contracts on the Western Corridor Railway without tender, it emerged yesterday.
The deals - worth $25.4 million - push the total cost of untendered contracts to about $110 million.
The Government is already investigating possible irregularities in the awarding of contracts to 14 consultants disclosed earlier.
Chairman of the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation Kevin Hyde wrote to legislators yesterday explaining why the contracts had not been included in the previous list of untendered deals. He said the list was drawn up with little lead time and 'did not include all the necessary information'.
Half of the value of the contracts revealed yesterday were awarded to International Bechtel, which the KCRC said was chosen because of 'its worldwide reputation, pre-eminent expertise and track record in the management of other major infrastructure projects'.
Other major contracts were awarded to Terry Farrell and Co ($5.4m), Rust Kennedy and Donkin Limited ($3.4m), and MVA Asia Limited ($2.3m).
