An American war veterans' organisation may seek access to Vietnamese in the territory's detention camps to unearth intelligence on US soldiers missing in action from the Vietnam War. Vietnam Veterans of America Incorporated national president James Brazee said yesterday his organisation was interested in getting into the camps. Interviews seeking details on soldiers missing in action have already been carried out in the camps by the United States Consulate's defence liaison office. But if the veterans' group gets the go-ahead, it would be the first time a non-governmental organisation had gained access for that specific purpose. Mr Brazee said: 'It is something we will consider doing in the future.' Refugee concern activists say 10 former North Vietnamese army personnel in the camps have been identified as 'traitors' by the authorities in Hanoi after details of their interviews by the US defence liaison office became known.
