A Chinese group of scholars, peasants, government cadres and journalists plans to sail to the Diaoyu Islands to protest against Japan's occupation. 'The group now has eight members and we'll go on the trip in a personal capacity,' said Tong Zeng , a member of the group. He said their plan was to sail to the Aislands from Fujian, which would take about 15 hours. They did not know how long was needed for preparation, so it was difficult to set an exact departure date, and the group had not yet discussed their plans with any Hong Kong group. 'But it would be a perfect match if our boat can arrive at the islands at the same time as the protest boats sent by Hong Kong and Taiwan activists,' he said. The group may start fund-raising soon to gather sponsorship for the trip. 'Information on the Diaoyu Islands controversy has been closed to the public. If they know more about the event, I am sure many more people will join our protest trip,' he said.
