I have long been dismayed by the regulations imposed on erotic material in Hong Kong, regulations which restrict what adults have the right to see and read.

Having categorised movies, the censors still prevent category III movies from being shown without editing. Who are they to tell us what to see? The Hong Kong Post Office also prohibits erotic material from being sent by mail.

The response I have got from the Postmaster General is ' . . . according to postal regulations, indecent or obscene communications, prints, photographs, books or other articles, and packages bearing grossly offensive, indecent or obscene words, marks or designs, are prohibited to be sent through the post'.

Now, what is obscene? Offensive to whom? I am an adult who wishes to purchase erotic material for my own enjoyment. What is so obscene about that? Whom would I offend? The Government could be doing more meaningful things than telling people what they can see and read.
