Hong Kong team manager Glyn Davies was yesterday trying to arrange an early flight home from Kuala Lumpur for the squad after their Asian Cricket Council Trophy venture fizzled out.
The territory take on Nepal in their final group game today. But it is a meaningless exercise after a crushing 106-run defeat at the hands of Bangladesh yesterday.
The loss ruled out any chance Hong Kong had of qualifying for the semi-finals. So Davies was left with the task of arranging an early trip home.
'It was unfortunate that we got stuffed. We bowled and fielded well but they were able to take a stranglehold when we went into bat,' said a disappointed Davies.
'They bowled very straight and our boys found it hard to score.' Hong Kong won the toss and skipper Pat Fordham put the opponents into bat. Bangladesh scored steadily, never taking any risks, to accumulate 224 for seven in 50 overs. Stewart Brew took three for 56, while Sada Hussain took one for 21 off nine overs.
Hong Kong began promisingly and were 40 for one, but wickets began to fall regularly and they succumbed to the pressure to be bowled out in the 40th over for 118.
'Their fielding was very sharp and they made it hard for us,' said Davies.
