Having celebrated its centennial last year, Suhner Abrasive Expert embarks into the next century with more innovations and a stronger market presence in Asia.

Founded in 1914, the high-end metal surface specialist has been focusing on quality and precision ever since. Initially producing flexible shafts, Suhner has evolved into a supplier focused on delivering solutions instead of simply offering products to end-users.

"As the Asian markets evolve, especially China and Southeast Asia, we're reinforcing ourselves as a service- and solution-oriented supplier," says Olivier Annaheim, managing director. "The Asian market will continue to move towards a paradigm shift to service as the abrasives and surface-finishing-related industries strive to grow. Being premium and high-end, Suhner's products stand out from the competition by demonstrating value and lower lifecycle costs."

Such commitment is reflected in the company's offering, the flexible shaft machine. The breakthrough grinder consolidates all tool parts in a highly lightweight ergonomic handpiece that can run 24/7 without maintenance. The innovation broadens Suhner's mobile demo service that allows experts from the company to visit clients and develop onsite comprehensive grinding solutions that address their specific requirements.

Proven successful worldwide in countries such as China and India, the company will further emphasise this demo concept with other Asian partners in Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam. Suhner goes through a meticulous process in selecting distribution partners for this approach to directly address customers' needs in industries such as foundries, aviation, food, pharmaceutical and stainless steel fabrication.

With existing manufacturing capabilities in China and India, and a commercial support hub in Singapore, Suhner's regional expansion will provide Asian countries with a more responsive technical support.

"We find Asia especially interesting," Annaheim says. "We're building our local presence there to help the market understand our products and the advantages they bring to business."
