A maid was convicted yesterday of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl while giving her a bath. Eastern magistrate Abu Wahab found the woman guilty of two charges of indecent assault on the child. The maid, 25, was cleared of a count of indecent assault on the girl's four-year-old brother. Mr Wahab said he accepted the girl's evidence. But the judge doubted the allegations made by the younger brother, because of the boy's propensity to 'mimic what the other has said and done'. He adjourned sentencing to September 27 pending a background report on the defendant. The court heard the maid arrived from the Philippines in August last year and went to work for the family. The same month, the girl told her mother the maid had molested her in the bath, but her mother thought the child might have misunderstood the actions. The child complained about the maid on several more occasions in August. When the girl asked her mother for ointment on January 8 this year, the mother discovered signs of possible sexual assault. After the maid's arrest on January 14, the boy also complained of a sexual assault by the maid while she bathed him.
