Greedy

It was with great sadness that I read about the demise of Shek O.

One of Hong Kong's last remaining villages is about to disappear. Nobody knows exactly when, but rapacious developers, driven by greed will soon drive hundreds of villagers from their ancestral homes.

Why is the Government so compelled, at this time, to sell off land that has been inhabited by generations of Shek O villagers? The redevelopment plans, which will almost quadruple Shek O's population, blatantly disregard the interests of the local community. I feel great empathy for the villagers who will be forced to vacate their familial homelands as many will not be able to afford to stay in the 'up market' Shek O.

This is shameful and disgraceful.
