This season's fashion is all about shiny fabrics and military looks and make-up colours for autumn and winter are set to follow suit. It is time to shimmer in seductive purples, rich plums and military greens. 'The news from New York is that purple is taking centre stage on every runway, in eyeshadows and long-lasting luscious lipsticks,' said Frederique Deleage, founder of Frederique Beauty Salon in Central. She suggests blueberry, French violet and sheer plum for eyes and purple, black orchid and grape for lips. 'Our sources also tip eyeshadows in shades of military green - there's golden olive, moss and French khaki, complemented by lip colours code-named micro-cashmere, matt toffee and matt honey rose,' Ms Deleage said. Ann Bardaud, from the Christian Chauveau Make-up School in Paris, will present free make-up demonstrations at the salon on October 25 and 26, sharing the latest tips and techniques from Europe. Revlon focuses on violet in its colour collection, with the accent on two palettes - sheer and shocking, with an edge of shimmer. 'The focus of the fashion collections is on shiny material and the colours are purple - light purple, shiny purple, bright purple, so the two looks that we created are based on light and dark purple,' said marketing manager Dorothy Lam. The sheer look uses icy pale violet with a little shine to highlight eyes and sheer shimmer alone or on top of the violet for lips and nails. In the other look, eyes are coloured with a shimmering shock of deep violet and lashes are double-coated. Lips are bold in Violet X-treme, or take on extra shine, and nails have a deep purple shimmer to match. Dior's look of a radiant face and shimmering eyes coloured with light iridescent tones is also inspired by current fashions. 'The focus is on soft and shiny fabric so we used that concept and mixed it with a palette of fashionable colours like khaki green and antique rose,' said marketing manager Mandy Cheng. A third theme centres around grey tones and each is in a five-colour eyeshadow set. 'There's a contrast between a matt dark colour in the middle and the surrounding light shades which are slightly iridescent,' Ms Cheng said. Guerlain's eyes have vinyl colours and a metallic look in three new eyeshadows: a slightly iridescent brick red, refreshed with vinyl yellow, and an almost electric metal grey which can be softened with pink. Mouths are soft and iridescent in shades of plum, purple and pearly pink, while nails are transparent. Colours for eyes from Lancome are all blues, inspired by space or more 'earthy' and gentle neutrals. Cutting-edge metallic shades for nails - taking their cue from shimmery face make-up - follow step with a blue or chocolate sheen.
