Rostrum ticket price too steep

I REFER to the article headlined, ''State begins to cash in on its monopoly over the past'' (South China Morning Post, January 7).

The article noted that the ticket price for mounting the rostrum in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, was 10 yuan which was described as being steep.

Actually, it is much worse. I was there on December 24.

At first I had to pay 0.50 yuan to deposit my small handbag, as it was not allowed on the rostrum.

The entrance to the rostrum was free, but once inside, those who wanted to go up to the rostrum had to pay 30 yuan.

I decided it was absurd to be charged 30 yuan just to mount the Tiananmen rostrum and so I did not continue.
