Chong Choi-chuk, 25, drowned his sorrows on May 28 after his girlfriend told him she was leaving to study abroad, Eastern Court heard.

The Citybus route planner - who did not have a licence - then sneaked on a bus at Siu Sai Wan depot and drove it away.

But Chong lost control of the vehicle in heavy rain and fainted after hitting a fence in Sun Yip Street, Chai Wan.

Magistrate Michael Hill ordered community service and also ruled that any application by Chong for a driver's licence be suspended for 18 months.
