Hollywood stars, among them Kevin Costner, are expected to attend opening parties for the Beijing branch of the China Club. Politicians, royalty and actors are said to be on the guest list, also believed to include Michael Caine and the Duchess of York. The old Bank of China building club, owned by businessman David Tang Wing-cheung, hosts a dinner party tonight prior to Saturday's opening in Beijing. The 10,000-square-metre club is close to Tiananmen Square. Government House would not confirm rumours Governor Chris Patten was on the VIP list for the dinner. Mr Tang, a fixture on the social scene with his trademark Cuban cigar and traditional Chinese dress, also counts the Princess of Wales among his friends.
