The distinguished economist who became head of Bank Bumiputra's international banking division. Jailed for five years in March, last year, for US$238 million (HK$1.84 billion) fraud. Extradited from France where he was working for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Saniman made a major contribution to Malaysia's New Economic Policy which transformed the country after race riots in 1969. Joined Bank Bumiputra in 1971 at the request of the Malaysian Government. He is still serving his sentence.
