Upholding more than three decades of pipe-bending expertise as South Korea's pioneer in induction bending technology, SUNG IL (SIM) is finely tuned into Asia-Pacific's growing pipeline industry. As rising oil and gas consumption in the region attracts investments in pipeline transmission infrastructure, the company seeks to share its expertise beyond South Korea.
"We offer a very high technology with varied industrial applications, and want to educate the market about it," says Woo Yang-ho, chairman. "Until recently, the small radius bending process was not acceptable under certain international standards for nuclear and thermal plants. Our data has proven that our technology is safe and efficient, and we established the technical basis to apply our high technology for projects certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers."
First manufactured in 1981, SIM's versatile induction pipe-bending machines have been used in almost 500 projects across various infrastructure sectors such as the petrochemical, energy, marine, construction and automobile industries. The company is also a one-stop service for fabricated piping systems, from bending and heat treating to painting and coating raw pipes, and manufactures components for marine engines, gas turbines and automobile engines.
Using induction heating directly on pipes where bending is required instead of threaded or welded elbow connectors, SIM's bending technology significantly reduces fabrication time and costs - ensuring the durability of piping systems by eliminating weak points in pipe joints.
With its eye on emerging business opportunities in turbine and vacuum casting, SIM seeks collaborations with governments, business leaders, project designers and construction companies.
Already present in Southeast Asia through agents in Singapore, the company maintains a successful track record of projects including collaborations with PetroChina and KEPCO E&C.
"We live in one world, and by supplying good-quality pipelines, we are contributing to the improvement of people's living standards," Woo says.
