A woman accused of trying to torch her ex-lover to death yesterday admitted she was obsessed with him but denied she wanted him dead 'so no one else could have him'.
Chau Pui-wan rejected a prosecution suggestion she was motivated by jealousy and attempted to kill Wong Cho-wah because she thought he was having affairs with women in mainland China when he went on business trips.
She also said she had not demanded Mr Wong leave his wife and marry her, but admitted she had become infatuated with him because she 'found he did not love me anymore'.
Chau, 32, who denies attempted murder, told the High Court that on October 13 last year, the pair argued over money she believed he owed her from their jewellery business.
She started 'hurling items' at Mr Wong, 34, and then splashed petrol from a pot she had prepared over him. She had earlier been holding a piece of burning paper, but had no recollection of how her former lover had caught fire.
The trial continues today.
