FORMER world number one Ivan Lendl bowed out of the Marseille Open in the second round, brushed aside by Italian Gianluca Pozzi 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. ''The conditions were bad,'' said top-seeded Lendl who lost in the first round of the Australian Open last month to Sweden's Christian Bergstrom. ''It was so noisy.'' Lendl looked nervous all through the match, making numerous unforced errors. ''It's my best performance so far,'' said a delighted Pozzi. The unheralded Italian now faces Dutchman Jan Siemerink for a place into the last four. Local hero Henri Leconte disappointed his fans by falling to doubles partner Marc Rosset of Switzerland in two sets. The hard hitting Rosset easily defeated the gifted but erratic Frenchman 6-4, 6-4.
