There is an easy way to understand the Basic Law - just pick up a copy of An ABC Guide to the Basic Law.
The ABC is designed to make the new law easy for the public to understand.
Published by the Committee on the Promotion of Civil Education (CPCE), the bilingual booklet examines the Basic Law section by section in separate chapters.
For quick reference, just turn to the relevant sections if you want to look up, say, 'General Principles', or 'Fundamental Rights and Duties of Residents', or 'Political Structure', or 'Economy, Science, Culture, Sports, etc'. The booklet focuses on those aspects of the Basic Law that are most relevant to daily life, and are presented in the format of a guide book.
Copies of the booklet are available at all district offices.
You can also get copies at the Civic Education Resource Centre, 2nd floor, Tung Sun Commercial Centre, 194-200 Lockhart Road in Wan Chai, and the Information Services Department's Marketing Office, 17th floor, Siu On Centre, 176-192 Lockhart Road.
