Former VIP Protection Unit police officers and others aged under 35 may be seconded to ensure guests' safety at the ceremony. The police are planning to train more officers to protect guests if the number invited is more than the 100-strong unit can handle. The plan is among the police's ceremony preparations which include restricting leave for top officers and expanding its team to work out security arrangements. A source from the VIP Protection Unit said: 'We are still waiting for a detailed guest list from which we would know the number of guests who need protection and the extra staff we will have to second. 'The first officers we would like to second are those who have been transferred from our unit. 'The others we would be looking at would be under 35, physically fit and have operational policing experience related in some way to VIP protection.'
