A five-star resort is opening soon on 'China Beach' - 30 years after American troops first landed there to fight in Vietnam.
The Furama Resort - China Beach will be Vietnam's first deluxe holiday resort, according to Hong Kong developers Majestic International Hotels.
A 20-minute drive from Da Nang, the country's fourth-largest city lying midway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the US$35-million resort is scheduled to open in December on the beach which was used by Americans for 'R and R'.
The 200-room resort, developed in extensive private grounds overlooking the sands, has been designed in low-rise clusters, reflecting a distinctive French-colonial architectural influence.
It is a joint venture between Furama Hotel Enterprises, the parent company, and a local travel company, Danatours.
Equipped with the latest audio-visual technology, the resort will be catering for conferences of up to 350 people. For the executive traveller, a state-of-the-art business centre will provide work stations with desktop computers, along with a full range of secretarial services.
