A COUPLE killed in a road accident after a Mid-Autumn dinner have left almost no savings for their three children because the stepfather had been unemployed for months.
Relatives said they would tell youngest daughter Yip Lai-pik, 20, of the death of her parents and grandfather, Yau Keng-ching, 75, when she returns today from a trip to China.
Yau Shui-chun, 40, and her husband, Lo Kam-shing, 39, were dashing across Lion Rock Tunnel Road, Sha Tin, at 8.13 pm on Friday when they were knocked down by a minibus under a flyover near Sun Tin Wai Estate.
Yau's father rushed across the road to the badly injured couple after learning of the accident about 25 minutes later and was hit by a car.
The family yesterday conducted a ceremony at the scene of the accidents, where residents said low fences tempted many to run across the road instead of using the flyover.
Eldest daughter Yip Chui-pik, 22, yesterday said she regretted having stayed at home instead of accompanying her parents to the dinner at her grandfather's home.
